Who Is Austin Mahone?

Austin was born in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Michele Lee and Charles Edgar. His father died when he was a year and six months old and was raised by his single mother. He is of English, French, German and Slovak descent. He attended Lady Bird Johnson high school in San Antonio but left after his freshman year for unknown reasons and was homeschooled at his grandmother’s house.

His Career

He began his career in June of 2010 by posting videos on YouTube. Soon after he began building a noticeable online fandom. He posted a video of him performing a cover to Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe in October 2011 and cited the singer as his inspiration.

On February 14th, 2012, Austin independently released his first single to iTunes ’11:11’. Later in June of the same year, he released his second single, ‘Say Somethin’. On the 28th of August still of the same year, he announced he signed to Chase/Republic Records. Later in November, he signed a deal to become the new teen ambassador for Lil Wayne’s Trukfit fashion clothing line.

He also filmed various commercials for Mcdonald’s and Hot Nuts, a Mexican snack. On the 3rd of December 2012, he released ‘Say You’re Just a Friend’ featuring rapper Flo Rida. Austin later released the piano version of the song, the reason being that some of his fans complained they couldn’t hear his voice properly and he wanted to reassure them he could still sing. He released his debut EP in May of 2013 but in Japan only. He released ‘What About Love’ in June of 2013 which went on to win MTV’s artists to watch and was chosen as one of the opening acts of Taylor Swifts’ Red Tour.
