Who is Bobby Shmurda?

Born Ackquille Jean Pollard but known professionally as Bobby Shmurda, he is an American songwriter and rapper. He became popular when his song ‘Hot Nigga’ peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, in 2014.

Bobby released his debut EP, Shmurda She Wrote on November 10, 2014, after signing a deal with Epic Records as a result of the success of his single ‘Hot Nigga’. He is regarded as the founder and pioneer of Brooklyn drill music, alongside Rowdy Rebel.

His career

Bobby Shmurda was born in Miami, Florida, on August 4, 1994, to an African American mother, Leslie Pollard, and Jamaican father, Gervase Johnson. He has an older brother, Javese Pollard. His mother later moved to East Flatbush, Brooklyn, from Florida, after his father’s incarceration and with the help of her mother, raised Shmurda and his brother.

His first song was a sampled version of Crime Mob’s ‘Knock If You Buck’, but he only became famous in 2014 for his single ‘Hot Nigga’, which used the instrumental of Lloyd Banks’ song ‘Jackpot’. Shmurda performed a signature dance, ‘Shmoney dance’ in the music video of ‘Hot Nigga’ which appeared in many popular internet vines and was replicated by other artists as well.

After the release of ‘Hot Nigga’, various artists including Juicy J, Lil’ Kim, Gunplay, French Montana, and T. I. released freestyles over the instrumental of the song.

His musical career took a massive blow in 2016, when he was sentenced to seven (7) years in prison (reduced to five years) after he was charged arrested and charged by the New York City Police, along with many other members of GS9 (a criminal enterprise). But after six (6) years in prison, he was eventually released from Clinton Correctional Facility on February 23, 2021.

Bobby Shmurda has a fortune of about $400,000. But this figure looks to rise tremendously after Shmurda revealed plans to start up a business in Real Estate and other ventures.
